Zhang Di (张迪)

Zhang Di (张迪) is a church pastor in Henan Province reported to be detained without trial as of August 2026, and one of five church leaders formally arrested in June 2016 after authorities demolished the Shuangmiao Christian Church in Shangqiu.

On the morning of May 5, 2016, about 300 police officers and city inspectors forcibly demolished the Shuangmiao Christian Church, which was still under construction in Shangqiu, Henan, according to the religious-freedom monitor China Aid as covered in international Christian media. Communist Party officials had ordered the demolition after declaring the church an “illegal structure,” and officials also cited the church’s refusal to pay a yearly 4,000-yuan (about US$588) “road usage fee” that local villagers had sought to impose. Church members dispute that account, saying they had tried to negotiate with officials before the demolition. About 40 worshippers were detained during the demolition; those who resisted were beaten.

About a month later, five church leaders were formally arrested: Huang Xiangju, Zhao Wenjing, Guo Chungai, Lü Yuexia, and Zhang Di, identified as the pastor of a neighboring church, China Aid reported.

Ten years later, the rights-defense monthly report Issue 131 (August 31, 2026) lists 张迪 in its Henan regional group of people reported to be detained without trial — alongside Zhao Wenjing, Lü Yuexia, and Guo Chungai, the same co-arrestees from the 2016 case. The Chinese-language edition of the report gives the Henan group as 赵文静、黄金桔、吕月霞、郭春该、张迪、张小平、何方美、刘兴国、张维柱、陈利军、贾榀、李前伟、贾芹、张小玉、常卫云、胡卫明、孙治军、胡洋; the English edition lists the same names in the same order, with “Zhang Di” in the matching position — the basis for the Chinese-character identification. No public reporting was found covering the decade between the 2016 arrest and the 2026 roster listing.
