Zhao Wenjing (赵文静)
Ms. Zhao Wenjing (赵文静) is a church leader in Henan Province reported to be detained without trial as of August 2026, and one of five church leaders formally arrested in June 2016 after authorities demolished the Shuangmiao Christian Church in Shangqiu. The Rights Defense Network’s (维权网) monthly political-prisoners report (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) lists her in its Henan detained-without-trial group.
The 2016 demolition and arrests
On the morning of May 5, 2016, about 300 police officers and city inspectors forcibly demolished the Shuangmiao Christian Church, which was still under construction in Shangqiu, Henan, according to the religious-freedom monitor China Aid as covered in international Christian media. Communist Party officials had ordered the demolition after declaring the church an “illegal structure,” and officials also cited the church’s refusal to pay a yearly 4,000-yuan (about US$588) “road usage fee” that local villagers had sought to impose. Church members dispute that account, saying they had tried to negotiate with officials before the demolition. About 40 worshippers were detained during the demolition; those who resisted were beaten.
About a month later, five church leaders were formally arrested after a month-long detention: Huang Xiangju, Zhao Wenjing, Guo Chungai, Lü Yuexia, and Zhang Di, identified as the pastor of a neighboring church, China Aid reported.
The 2026 roster listing
Ten years later, the Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 report (August 31, 2026) lists 赵文静 in its Henan regional group of people reported to be detained without trial — alongside Guo Chungai, Lü Yuexia, and Zhang Di, the same co-arrestees from the 2016 case. The Chinese-language edition of the report gives the Henan group as 赵文静、黄金桔、吕月霞、郭春该、张迪 and others; the English edition lists the same names in the same order, with “Zhao Wenjing” in the matching position — the basis for the Chinese-character identification. No public reporting was found covering the decade between the 2016 arrest and the 2026 roster listing.
Status and evidentiary limits
As of August 31, 2026, the Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 report lists Ms. Zhao in its Henan detained-without-trial group. The 2016 formal arrest is documented; nothing about the intervening decade is established, and no continuous detention across that period is asserted here. The Chinese characters 赵文静 are identified positionally from the roster’s own Chinese edition; the 2016 reporting gives no Chinese characters. The 2016 co-arrestee “Huang Xiangju” is not the 2026 group member 黄金桔 / Huang Jinyu — different given-name characters, different people. The formal-arrest charges were not stated in the sources. The other Henan group members are different individuals in the same regional list and are not merged into this record.
