吴玉喜

Classification: Rights petitioner from Ezhou, Hubei; detained in 2021 in connection with petitioning over a land dispute; custody status currently unconfirmed.

Wu Yuxi (吴玉喜), from Shangwuwan, Huahuang Village, Taihe Town, Liangzihu District, Ezhou City, Hubei Province, is a rights petitioner who advocated for redress after her family’s farmland and residential land were taken in a 2011 land dispute involving the village committee and local quarry developers, according to case records maintained by the Chinese Human Rights Defenders Prisoners of Conscience database and the monitoring organization China Political Prisoner Concern (CPPC).

On August 29, 2021, she was intercepted by police at Beijing West Railway Station after petitioning in Beijing, sent back to Ezhou, and held in hotel quarantine that functioned as detention. On November 19, 2021, the Liangzihu District Procuratorate of Ezhou approved her arrest on suspicion of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble” (寻衅滋事罪); she was held at the Ezhou City No. 1 Detention Center (arrest notice 梁子公(太和所)捕通字[2021]3070号). CPPC’s record states she was later released on bail (the release date is not documented in the available sources). On May 6, 2025, she was among four petitioners who travelled to Tianjin for a friend’s father’s funeral; they were intercepted by police on returning to Beijing, held for several hours, and she was released.
