Liu Cuixian (刘翠先)

Liu Cuixian (刘翠先) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Kunming, Yunnan Province, with a documented history of detention and imprisonment spanning more than two decades.

Minghui reports earlier forced-labor terms following detentions in 2003 and 2005. On December 20, 2012, Liu and three other women were arrested in Lufeng County while distributing Shen Yun informational DVDs. The Lufeng County Court sentenced Liu to eight years in prison on May 31, 2013. In a later first-person account published by Minghui, Liu said her appeal was rejected and described alleged mistreatment in Yunnan No. 2 Women’s Prison, including sleep deprivation, forced sitting, restricted restroom access, forced labor, and unidentified medication or injections. Those prison-condition allegations remain her account as published by Minghui.

Liu was released on October 20, 2018, according to that first-person account.

On June 6, 2024, Minghui reported that police carried out a coordinated operation against Falun Gong practitioners in Kunming and arrested Liu at her home. Reports differ on some raid details, including participating police units, time of entry, and the amount of cash seized; those discrepancies are preserved rather than resolved.

The Xishan District Procuratorate formally approved Liu’s arrest in July 2024. A joint case was tried by the Xishan District Court on March 26, 2025. Minghui reports that on May 1, 2025, Liu was sentenced to four years and six months in prison and fined 15,000 yuan. She did not appeal. The outlet reported that Liu was transferred to Yunnan Province Second Women’s Prison on October 9, 2025.

Status: reported serving the 2025 sentence as of October 9, 2025. No release date is inferred, because the available sources do not establish how pretrial detention is credited toward the term.
