Jiang Yongqin (姜永芹) was a former university lecturer who was repeatedly detained and imprisoned in connection with her practice of Falun Gong. Falun Gong-affiliated organizations reported that she died in January 2026, roughly two months after being released on medical parole from a five-year sentence.
Background
Minghui reports that Jiang was born in Changchun, Jilin Province, studied mechanical engineering and later taught at the Experimental Teaching Center for Mechanics at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University in Hangzhou.
2009–2012 imprisonment
Minghui reports that Jiang was arrested in 2009, sentenced in February 2010 to three years in prison, and transferred to Zhejiang Women’s Prison in April 2010. The available reports do not identify the criminal charge. Minghui further alleges that she was required to perform unpaid prison labor. She was released in 2012 and, according to the same reporting, lost her university position.
Later detentions and 2024 sentence
Minghui reports that Jiang was detained again in November 2015 and in October 2017. After returning to Jilin, she was arrested on June 12, 2022. Falun Gong-affiliated sources allege that she was mistreated in custody; those allegations have not been independently verified.
Minghui and the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong report that Jiang was tried in June 2023 and sentenced on January 24, 2024 to five years in prison, after which she was sent to Jilin Province Women’s Prison. Minghui reports that Jiang developed serious medical problems in prison in 2025 and was released on medical parole in November 2025.
