Lei Xiuxiang / 雷秀香

Lei Xiuxiang (雷秀香) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Jilin City, Jilin Province. U.S. and Falun Gong-affiliated sources document a five-year prison term beginning with a 2015 detention and a second five-year prison term imposed after a later re-arrest.

2015–2021 imprisonment

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom reports that Lei was detained in July 2015 after sending a letter to a high-ranking former official protesting the treatment of Falun Gong practitioners. The database records a five-year prison sentence and her release in early 2021.

Earlier reported detention history

Minghui reports earlier detention beginning in the late 1990s and three reeducation-through-labor terms totaling about four and a half years between 2006 and 2013. The outlet alleges force-feeding, electric shocks and other mistreatment during those periods; those allegations remain source-attributed and have not been independently verified.

Second five-year term

Minghui reports that police entered Lei’s home on March 31, 2023, confiscated Falun Gong books and other property, and took her into custody. One summary line in the same 2024 article gives March 31, 2024 instead; the detailed body and a syndicated copy use 2023, which is used here with that discrepancy noted.

Minghui reported in May 2024 that Lei had been sentenced to another five years in prison and transferred to Jilin Province Women’s Prison. A later report confirmed admission to that prison in June 2025.

Status and evidence limits

USCIRF’s “Released” status refers to Lei’s first prison term and does not reflect the later case. The formal criminal charge, indictment date, trial date and verdict date in the later prosecution are not stated in the reviewed sources. No current status beyond the June 2025 prison report is independently inferred.
