Li Hongwei (李红卫) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Zhengzhou, Henan Province. Falun Gong-affiliated reporting states that she was detained in November 2021 and sentenced on September 27, 2023 to five years and six months in prison and a 50,000-yuan fine.
2021 detention and prosecution
Minghui reports that Li, then 63 and a retired state-enterprise employee, was detained on November 1, 2021 while visiting another practitioner. The outlet states that police searched her home three times, held her at a police station for about three weeks, then transferred her through a facility it describes as a “brainwashing center” and later to Zhengzhou City No. 3 Detention Center. Those detention-chain and search allegations have not been independently verified.
Trial and sentence
According to Minghui, the Xinzheng Court heard Li’s case on July 19, 2023 and family members were not permitted to attend. On September 27, 2023, the court sentenced her to five years and six months in prison and fined her 50,000 yuan. Co-defendant Li Yixing reportedly received the same sentence.
Status and evidence limits
Rights Defense Network Issue 131 lists 李红卫 among reported current prisoners in its five-years-six-months group as of August 31, 2026, adjacent to 李一星 in the same sentence category. No current facility, sentence-end date, official judgment or independent non-Falun-Gong account of the case was located.
Identity note: this record is distinct from a male same-name Falun Gong practitioner from Shenyang who died in 2021, and from other unrelated people named Li Hongwei.
