In May 2025 she was sentenced to three years and ten months in prison in connection with her religious practice, following her detention in April 2024. She had previously served a six-year prison term arising from a 2014 group detention.
Background and earlier persecution
According to practitioner-affiliated reporting and a human-rights case database, Li Li is a resident of Yunhe District in Cangzhou. On August 17, 2014, she was among 42 Falun Gong practitioners detained together in Cangzhou in what reporting calls the “817 group detention event”; after more than a year in custody, she was sentenced in December 2015 to six years in prison.
The 2024–2025 case
On April 17, 2024, Li Li was on her way to work when she was detained by domestic-security police of the Yunhe district branch of the Cangzhou public security bureau and taken to the Cangzhou detention center, according to the case records. The Yunhe District Procuratorate at one point returned the case for supplementary investigation; the Yunhe District Court tried her case on April 9, 2025. Around May 29, 2025, it was reported that she had been sentenced to three years and ten months; the specific charge was not disclosed in the sources reviewed. On September 4, 2025, she was transferred to the Hebei Provincial Women’s Prison. Family visits were reported to have been refused.
