Li Qun (李群, Kunming) — Media Profile & Archive

This archive preserves the documented source record for Li Qun (李群, Kunming), detained member of the Century New City Church (世纪新城教会) in Kunming, Yunnan — one of three Christians taken in the April 12, 2026 police raid on the church’s Sunday service and formally arrested on May 20, 2026 on suspicion of “organizing illegal gatherings.” It does not cover the different person 李群 of Wenshan, a woman and Falun Gong practitioner reported in January 2023 to have been sentenced to six years, who is documented separately.

Case chronology (as documented by the case reports)

  • April 12, 2026: Police raid the Sunday service of the Century New City Church in Kunming and take preacher Yu Shaolin (虞少林) and members Li Qun (李群) and Luo Ping (罗平).
  • May 20, 2026: The Guandu branch of the Kunming Public Security Bureau serves formal arrest notices on the three; they are suspected of “organizing illegal gatherings” (组织、资助非法聚集罪) and are held at the Guandu District Detention Center in Kunming.
  • May 22, 2026: ChinaAid publishes the first detailed report on the arrests.
  • May 29, 2026: 民生观察 publishes its Chinese-language report on the case; the church issues an open letter asking for prayer and legal help and begins seeking legal representation.
  • Late August 2026: Chinese rights-monitoring sources report the case has entered the trial phase, with a pretrial conference scheduled for September 2 and a trial for September 16, 2026.
  • As of October 10, 2026: No verdict has been reported in the sources located.
  • August 31, 2026: The Rights Defense Network (维权网) monthly roster places a 李群 among its Yunnan entries, in the un-sentenced group.

Source record

  1. ChinaAid (对华援助协会), May 22, 2026 — “中国收紧宗教控制:云南一家庭教会传道人及信徒遭”非法聚集”罪名批捕”: first detailed report — the April 12 raid on Century New City Church; preacher Yu Shaolin and two members taken; formal arrest notices served May 20 by the Guandu branch of the Kunming Public Security Bureau; charge of organizing illegal gatherings; detention at the Guandu District Detention Center; Yu’s health condition and the police questioning of remaining believers. Source note: this report renders the co-detainee’s name as 李勤; two other independent sources use 李群 / Li Qun. Full report
  2. 民生观察 (Civil Rights & Livelihood Watch), May 29, 2026 — “昆明世纪新城教案虞少林等三人被批捕”: Chinese-language report — the April 12 raid, Yu Shaolin and two co-workers taken, formal arrests on May 20 on suspicion of organizing illegal gatherings, detention at the Guandu District Detention Center; the congregation of about thirty; the church’s open letter and appeal for legal aid. Full report
  3. Bitter Winter, by Li Xiaosi — “Century New City Church, Kunming: Prayers Requested for Three Detained Christians”: English-language report — officers took “Pastor Yu Shaolin and co-workers Li Qun and Luo Ping” on April 12, 2026; formal arrest May 20 on the charge of organizing an illegal assembly; transfer to the Guandu District Detention Center. Evidentiary limitations

  • No verdict has been reported; Li’s status is presented as detained with the case in proceedings, not as convicted.
  • No PRC official statement or state-media coverage of the case has been located; the charge wording derives from the formal arrest notices as reported by the outlets above.
  • Name rendering: ChinaAid’s report renders the co-detainee as 李勤 (Li Qin); the rights-database record and Bitter Winter both use 李群 / Li Qun. 勤 and 群 differ by one radical; the identification follows the majority rendering, with the caveat preserved here.
  • Charge rendering: the database gives 组织、资助非法聚集罪 while the outlets use variant wordings of the same charge as reported — presented as reported, not harmonized.
  • This archive covers the Kunming house-church member only; the Wenshan Falun Gong practitioner 李群 (woman, reported sentenced to six years in January 2023) is a different person and is not merged here.
