Li Wen / 李文
Li Wen (李文) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Liaoyuan City, Jilin Province, and a former employee of the People’s Bank of China branch in Liaoyuan. On September 19, 2024, he was seized by Liaoyuan police and his home was searched. He was subsequently sentenced by the Liaoyuan court to four years in prison on an unrecorded charge, and on February 25, 2025, he was transferred to Jilin Province No. 2 Prison in Jilin City.
Background
According to practitioner-community case records, Li had previously been targeted for his Falun Gong practice. On May 12, 2008, Liaoyuan police surrounded the home he shared with his wife, 李玉秋 (Li Yuqiu), cutting power and sealing the building, and later searched the home, seizing cash, computers, printers, and Falun Gong materials. After a period living in hiding and working in Taiyuan, the couple were seized in March 2009. On June 24, 2009, the Longshan District Court sentenced them each to four years; Li Yuqiu was sent to the Jilin Provincial Women’s Prison and Li Wen to Siping Prison (also known as Shiling Prison), where practitioner archives describe sustained torture through 2012. These earlier-case accounts are attributed to the practitioner archive and have not been independently verified.
The 2024 detention and four-year sentence
On September 19, 2024, Liaoyuan police again seized Li Wen and searched his home, detaining him for what the reports describe as a constructed prosecution. In early March 2025 it became known that the Liaoyuan court had sentenced him to four years in prison; the charge was not publicly recorded. On February 25, 2025, he was moved to Jilin Province No. 2 Prison to serve the sentence.
Current status
Li Wen is believed to be currently imprisoned, serving a four-year sentence expected to run to September 18, 2028, in Jilin Province No. 2 Prison. No release record has been located.
