Li Xianghong (李向红) — Shaanxi Woman Sentenced to Four Years for Her Faith

Li Xianghong (李向红)

Li Xianghong is a woman from Liquan County in Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province, who was sentenced to four years in prison in 2024.

According to a March 2024 case notice published by the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong, Li — described as a Falun Gong practitioner — was arrested on September 30, 2022, together with Li Jing and Zhang Tao, while distributing Falun Gong materials. Officers from the Qian County Public Security Bureau and the Qindu District Public Security Bureau seized the three of them; criminal detention was reported on October 2, 2022, with Li and Li Jing held at the Liquan County Detention Center and Zhang Tao at the Qian County Detention Center.

The arrest was formally approved on November 4, 2022, and the case was filed with the Qian County Procuratorate. The notice states that Li and Li Jing went on hunger strike in protest and were allegedly subjected to forced feeding of unknown fluids, leaving their lives in danger. This account comes from the publishing organization and has not been independently verified.

In early February 2023 the case was transferred to the Qindu District Procuratorate, which indicted the three to the Qindu District Court in March 2023. The court tried them on April 25, 2023; the procuratorate recommended a sentence of three to seven years for Li and Li Jing, and eight months for Zhang Tao. Zhang Tao was released on bail on August 1, 2023. On February 19, 2024, the Qindu District Court issued its judgment: Li Xianghong was sentenced to four years with a 10,000-yuan fine, Li Jing to four years and six months with a 10,000-yuan fine, and Zhang Tao to ten months with a 5,000-yuan fine. The notice reports that Li Xianghong and Li Jing appealed the verdicts.

The Rights Defense Network (维权网) lists 李向红 in its August 31, 2026 monthly report on political and conscience prisoners in custody in mainland China, in the group of those sentenced to four years.
