Li Yueying / 李月英 is a Falun Gong practitioner from Chenxi County in Huaihua City, Hunan Province. Born in 1940, she is a retired worker of the Chenxi County fish farm. Over more than two decades she has been repeatedly detained for practicing and speaking about Falun Gong, most recently a six-month prison sentence handed down by the Yuanling County People’s Court, which was enforced in July 2026 when she was taken to the Hunan Provincial Women’s Prison at the age of 86.
The 2020 case and the Yuanling prosecution
In the first half of 2020, Li was seized by Chenxi County police after she posted stickers reading “Falun Dafa is good” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” on a street, according to the case report. Police and procuratorate personnel prepared case materials under the direction of the county political-legal committee and transferred the case to the Yuanling County People’s Procuratorate — the body designated to handle Falun Gong cases in the area. Procuratorate staff later telephoned Li and her family repeatedly with warnings, the report says.
In about March 2022, Yuanling procuratorate staff accompanied by local police came to Li’s home carrying what they described as an indictment and pressed her to go to court to “close the case.” Li refused, saying she had broken no law.
A six-month sentence, delayed enforcement, and prison at 86
The human-rights case database record states that in 2023 the Yuanling County People’s Court sentenced Li to six months in prison, but she was not immediately taken into custody to serve it.
In November and December 2025, officials from the county anti-cult office and the Yuanling court came to her home repeatedly, forcibly took her for medical examinations, and pressed her to sign papers accepting the six-month term, according to the December 2025 case report. She refused. On December 19, 2025, a group of public-security, procuratorial, and court personnel took her to a hospital in Huaihua for a forced examination and tried to have her sign the sentencing document; her family reports her blood pressure spiked to a dangerous level during the ordeal, and she was returned home that evening.
In July 2026, court bailiffs escorted Li — then 86 — to the Hunan Provincial Women’s Prison (in Changsha) to serve the six-month term, according to the case-database entry of September 18, 2026. Family members expressed concern about her advanced age and health. The recorded term runs to January 2027.
Earlier detention history
Li began practicing Falun Gong in August 1995, the case record says. After the practice was banned in 1999, she traveled to Beijing to appeal and was detained at Tiananmen Square in November 1999, then held in her home county for 50 days. In September 2000 she was sent to a labor camp for one year. In December 2001 she was detained again and, after about fifteen months of custody, was sentenced to three years and transferred to the Changsha Women’s Prison. The case-database record notes she was twice subjected to re-education through labor and was previously sentenced to three years in 2012.
Current status
Li Yueying is currently imprisoned, serving the six-month sentence in the Hunan Provincial Women’s Prison with a recorded term ending in January 2027.
