Liu Chunxia (刘春霞)

Liu Chunxia (刘春霞) is a Falun Gong practitioner and former engineer from Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. Monitoring sources report that she has received three prison sentences in cases connected to her practice.

Minghui reports a five-year sentence imposed in 2002 and a four-year sentence imposed in 2018. After her 2021 release, she worked for a property-management company in Xi’an.

On May 6, 2023, Liu was detained at her workplace shortly before the China-Central Asia Summit in Xi’an. Minghui reports that a detention center initially refused to admit her because of high blood pressure and that police instead took her to Chang’an District Ankang Hospital, a police-run psychiatric facility. Her case later moved through the Huyi District Procuratorate to the Lianhu District Court.

According to Minghui, the Lianhu District Court sentenced Liu on August 30, 2024 to three years and six months in prison plus a 10,000-yuan fine. She was transferred to Shaanxi Province Women’s Prison on October 9, 2024.

Liu’s sister, Liu Ling, an Australian citizen living in Sydney, has publicly advocated for her release. Minghui reproduced a June 30, 2023 letter from Australian Senator Simon Birmingham expressing concern about Liu’s detention and urging the Australian government to raise her case with Chinese authorities.

The Prisoners of Conscience Database lists an expected release date of November 5, 2026. That date is the database’s record and is not treated here as independent confirmation of an actual release.

Status: reported imprisoned as of October–November 2024 monitoring records. No later case-specific report confirming current conditions was located.
