Lu Baozhen (陆宝珍) — Political Prisoner Profile

Classification: Retired senior engineer from Kaili, Guizhou, born 1942; sentenced to three years in June 2026; reported in custody as of August 2026.

Background

Lu Baozhen (陆宝珍), born December 12, 1942, is a retired senior engineer from Kaili City in Guizhou Province and a Falun Gong practitioner. According to her family and reporting on her case, she worked as a senior engineer at a prefectural forestry science research institute in Kaili, where she also lived with her family at No. 6 Huandong East Road. A report on her case published on August 7, 2026 states that she began practicing Falun Gong in June 1995.

Detention and sentencing

In mid-November 2025, Lu was detained by police from the Kaili City domestic-security brigade after she spoke with members of the public about Falun Gong. Because of high blood pressure she was released on bail pending trial, but police and prosecutors continued to pursue the case against her. She was tried on March 23, 2026. On June 3, 2026, the Kaili City court issued a verdict sentencing her to three years in prison.

On June 5, 2026 — before she or her family had received a copy of the verdict — four special police officers took Lu from her home to the Kaili City Detention Center. When she was later transported to Guizhou No. 1 Women’s Prison, the prison declined to admit her: an intake examination found her blood pressure above 200, high blood sugar, and that she could not walk. She was transferred to the Guizhou Provincial Public Security Hospital.

Current status

The Rights Defense Network’s monthly roster of prisoners of conscience (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) lists Lu Baozhen among prisoners sentenced to three years and counts her as in custody. A prisoner database maintained by Chinese Human Rights Defenders gives a stated release date of June 4, 2029. The family reportedly never received the written verdict, so the three-year sentence and the release date remain source-attributed, not court-verified.

Note on her current facility: sources differ on where she is currently held — an August 21, 2026 database entry places her at the Kaili City Detention Center, while an August 7, 2026 report states that she was refused by the women’s prison on medical grounds and moved to the Guizhou Provincial Public Security Hospital. Both are presented here as dated source attributions, not as settled fact.
