Lü Xinhua (吕新华) is a Hubei democracy activist and China Democracy Party organizer whose role in the 1998 Hubei preparatory effort and later imprisonment are supported by multiple independent sources.
Democracy activity
Human Rights Watch and Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council identify Lü among the Hubei China Democracy Party preparatory-committee representatives who sought registration in September 1998. Contemporaneous reporting also names Lü with Chen Zhonghe and Ren Qiuguang in the Hubei registration effort.
Detention and imprisonment
Source reporting places Lü under monitoring or residential surveillance from March 12, 2001, detained on March 18 and formally arrested on April 20. He was later sentenced to four years in prison. Later reporting places his release in 2005. Sources differ on the precise judgment date, so Free China does not normalize that date without the authenticated judgment.
Evidence status
The identity, Hubei organizing role and four-year imprisonment are sufficiently corroborated for this source-bounded profile. Original 1998 registration papers, branch documents, the 2001 indictment and authenticated judgment, prison/release records and exact later organization appointments remain research targets.
This profile is being progressively enriched as primary records and additional independent reporting are recovered.
