Ma Yun (马云) — Political Prisoner Profile

Ma Yun (马云)

Ma Yun (马云), born October 1964, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Jixi, Heilongjiang Province, currently serving an 8-year prison sentence following her 2023 arrest and trial.

On the morning of April 22, 2023, police from the Xiangyang police station of the Jiguan district public security bureau in Jixi seized Ma Yun and searched her home. She was taken to the Jixi City Detention Center that night. While in custody she developed a serious heart condition and was hospitalized, but remained in criminal detention. The Jiguan district procuratorate approved her arrest on May 29, 2023, and the case was later transferred to the Jidong County procuratorate and prosecuted in the Jidong County Court.

On November 14, 2023, the Jidong County Court tried her case; a defense lawyer argued she was not guilty, while the prosecution recommended a 10-year sentence. On November 20, 2023, the court sentenced her to 8 years’ imprisonment with a 20,000-yuan fine (judgment (2023) 黑0321 刑初 75号); the criminal charge as written in the available record is not specified. She appealed; the Jixi City Intermediate Court upheld the sentence on January 24, 2024. Her term runs through April 21, 2031.

The name 马云 is also carried by the Alibaba Group founder and by the subject of an unrelated 2022 Hangzhou rumor. This profile documents only the Falun Gong practitioner from Jixi described above; nothing in the available evidence connects her to the other figures.
