Profile status: Canonical profile; source enrichment remains ongoing.

Mao Guoliang (毛国良) is a Zhejiang democracy activist and former political prisoner whose documented activity spans the 1989 democracy movement, June Fourth accountability advocacy, and the 1998 China Democracy Party organizing period.

1989 imprisonment

Published source reporting records that Mao was arrested on June 18, 1989 and received a seven-year sentence. Later source reporting says the sentence was reduced and that he was released in September 1993. The original judgment, sentence-reduction instrument and release record remain open research targets.

Later political activity

Mao was associated with Zhejiang democracy networks after release, including a 1996 June Fourth petition and participation in the 1998 China Democracy Party organizing period. Separate questioning or detention episodes in 1996 and early 1998 are treated independently from the 1989 imprisonment.
