Ming Jingguo (明经国), born in 1955, is a farmer from Nankang District, Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province. Monitoring records report that he was sentenced in September 2018 to death with a two-year reprieve for intentional homicide after a fatal confrontation during a forced-demolition operation.
2017 demolition confrontation
Chinese Political Prisoner Concern and CHRD report that on March 17, 2017, local authorities carried out a campaign to demolish “hollow houses” in Shibatang Township. During the demolition of his ancestral house, Ming fought with demolition workers and struck township people’s congress chairman Zhuo Yu with a sickle-shovel; Zhuo later died from his injuries.
Trial and sentence
Ming was detained the next day and formally arrested on April 8, 2017. He was tried by the Ganzhou Intermediate People’s Court on November 16, 2017. Monitoring records state that on September 27, 2018 the court sentenced him to death with a two-year reprieve and lifetime deprivation of political rights. The Jiangxi High People’s Court upheld the verdict on March 19, 2019.
Status and evidence limits
CHRD records Ming as serving his sentence at Ganzhou Prison, and Rights Defense Network Issue 131 lists 明经国 among reported current prisoners as of August 31, 2026. The post-reprieve form of his sentence after the two-year reprieve elapsed is not independently documented and is not inferred here.
