Su Guiying / 苏桂英

Classification: Falun Gong practitioner; prisoner of conscience; sentenced to five years in prison in May 2024. Current detention status after that sentencing is unconfirmed; Minghui’s June 2024 article said only that she was “likely” still held at the Zhanjiang City Detention Center.

Background and earlier term

Su Guiying (苏桂英) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Zhanjiang City in Guangdong Province, southern China. According to Minghui, she was arrested on August 31, 2016, tried on December 12, 2017, and sentenced to four years in prison with a 5,000-yuan fine. She served that term at the Guangdong Province Women’s Prison and was released in August 2020. Minghui published detailed first-person-style accounts of alleged abuse during that term — beatings, prolonged standing, sleep deprivation, denial of restroom use — which are preserved, attributed, in the Media Archive below.

The pension dispute

Days after her release, in August 2020, Su Guiying’s pension was suspended. Minghui reports that the local social-security bureau appeared to be recouping retirement benefits paid to her while she was imprisoned — a practice Minghui says is common against former practitioner-prisoners. Su visited the bureau repeatedly, filed complaints with its supervising agency, and was turned away; her case was later dismissed by the local court. Minghui frames the pension suspension and her unsuccessful appeals as the sequence leading to her rearrest.

Arrest and five-year sentence

On May 11, 2023, Su Guiying was arrested at home; Minghui reports the police raided her home without showing a search warrant, and she was placed under formal arrest by the Mazhang District Procuratorate. Her case was transferred to the Chikan District Procuratorate, and she was tried at the Chikan District Court on November 15, 2023. In May 2024 she was sentenced to five years in prison. Minghui noted she was then 63, and cautiously wrote that she was “likely still held” at the Zhanjiang City Detention Center after the conviction.

Status and evidentiary limits

Su Guiying is classified as a current prisoner. 维权网’s August 31, 2026 monthly report (Issue 131) lists 苏桂英 among the prisoners of conscience in custody, in the “sentenced to 5 years” group — consistent with the five-year term Minghui reported. Her detention location after May 2024, prison division, exact release date, and current condition are unconfirmed; no further detail is inferred. All abuse allegations from her earlier term are attributed to Minghui and are not independently verified. This profile does not merge Su Guiying with Su Cuizhi (苏翠芝, Dehui, Jilin), Wang Guiying, or Sun Guiying, who are different people.
