Sun Ping (孙萍) is a retired worker and Falun Gong practitioner from Nanguan District in Changchun City, Jilin Province, born February 12, 1956. She is serving a five-year prison sentence following a secret sentencing by the Changchun City Chaoyang District Court in January 2023.
Case record
On February 23, 2022, in the early morning, police entered Sun Ping’s home, confiscated her computer, printer, and books, and detained her. She was taken first to the Minkang Road police station and then to Xinglongshan, and on February 28, 2022 she was transferred to the Changchun Fourth Detention Center, where she was held for more than ten months without her family receiving any news of her.
In January 2023, personnel of the Chaoyang District Court notified Sun Ping’s family that she had been sentenced to five years in prison. Sun Ping requested an appeal. The Chinese Human Rights Defenders political-prisoner database records her sentence as five years with a release date of February 22, 2027.
As of August 31, 2026, she remains listed in custody in the monthly roster of mainland political and conscience prisoners, in the group of those sentenced to five years.
Earlier persecution
According to Minghui, Sun Ping faced detention and home searches after July 1999 and was detained for ten days in March 2000. These accounts have not been independently verified.
Current status
In custody as of August 31, 2026. Her current facility has not been publicly confirmed.
Identity note: A separate record for 孙平 (Sun Ping in pinyin), a practitioner from Rizhao, Shandong with a two-year sentence, is a same-pinyin collision — a different person, not associated with this case.
