Sun Wentian is a Falun Gong practitioner from Yakeshi City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In April 2023 he was arrested as part of a police sweep targeting practitioners in Yakeshi and Manzhouli; in 2024 the Yakeshi City Court sentenced him to seven and a half years in prison. His appeal was rejected in September 2024 after a retrial.
On April 19, 2023, officers from the Yakeshi City Domestic Security Division arrested Sun Wentian, Guo Changsuo, and four other practitioners. Police searched their homes and found Falun Gong books. Sun was held at the Yakeshi City Detention Center, indicted by the Yakeshi City Procuratorate, and tried by the Yakeshi City Court.
According to Minghui.org, the court originally sentenced Sun to seven and a half years on July 9, 2024. He appealed to the Hulunbuir Intermediate Court, which sent the case back for retrial. At retrial, the court upheld the sentence. A second appeal was rejected on September 23, 2024. Bitter Winter independently reported the same case and sentence, while framing the September ruling as the culmination of the case.
In December 2008, Minghui reported that Sun Wentian and his wife Li Shuzhen were detained in Yakeshi while distributing Falun Gong informational materials, providing an earlier identity anchor.
No public information about Sun Wentian’s prison assignment or condition after September 2024 has been located. His Chinese characters are unconfirmed and are intentionally omitted here.
