Tang Ping / 唐平 — Media Profile & Archive
This archive preserves the evidence used for the canonical Tang Ping profile and the identity safeguards needed for a common Chinese name.
Prisoner documentation
HRIC/HRW-Asia Hunan prisoner roster. The preserved Hunan documentation identifies Tang Ping as a Miao demobilized soldier and Fenghuang County Tobacco Factory cadre. It reports that he and Li Deming circulated writings opposing the 1989 crackdown, that Tang was arrested in 1991, and that he received a three-year sentence for counterrevolutionary propaganda and incitement.
Later historical synthesis
A later Hunan historical account identifies the Xiangxi Prefecture Intermediate Court and describes circulation to local government and justice-system organs. The precise recipient list differs from the roster account, which refers more broadly to party, government and military organs and news organizations. The archive therefore preserves the disagreement rather than merging the accounts.
Associated person
Li Deming (李德铭), another Miao former soldier who worked as a police officer at a Fenghuang County public-security substation, is described as Tang’s co-defendant and as receiving a five-year term. Li should remain a separate person record.
Identity safeguard and open gaps
This Tang Ping is the male Fenghuang veteran and factory cadre, not the unrelated female Changsha singer with the same Chinese name. The original judgment, exact wording and recipients of the writings, prison placement, confirmed release, post-release biography and current status remain unlocated.
