The case
Tang Xingxiu (唐兴秀), a woman from Chengdu, Sichuan, is a Falun Gong practitioner who was sentenced to two years and six months in prison in February 2025 for distributing Falun Gong literature. According to the case record, in March 2024 Tang joined fellow practitioners Li Caiqiong, Meng Qingsu, and Jia Xingrong in distributing Falun Gong booklets at the Sanjiang street market and Lemon East Street areas of Sanjiang township, Chongzhou. After being reported by local residents, all four were arrested on March 19, 2024 by Chongzhou public security officers and held at the Chengdu City Detention Center.
On February 11, 2025, the Chongzhou Court tried the four together. Reporting on the trial notes that Tang’s family-appointed defense representative was denied the right to speak, the court-assigned lawyers were all dismissed by the four defendants, and the defendants conducted their own defense. The court sentenced Tang to two years and six months in prison with a 6,000 yuan fine (Li Caiqiong received 4.5 years, Meng Qingsu 3.5 years, Jia Xingrong 2 years). All four declared they would appeal.
