Tian Lisha (田丽莎) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Wendeng District in Weihai, Shandong Province, where she worked at the Hongyun carpet factory (文登洪云地毯厂), a local enterprise founded by the factory head Tian Shihong. Born on December 11, 1969, she was one of nine practitioners seized in a large-scale police operation against the factory in July 2022 and sentenced to nine years in prison by the Rongcheng City Court.
The July 2022 factory raid
On the morning of July 20, 2022, police from the Wendeng Branch of the Weihai Public Security Bureau, reinforced by riot police, moved into the Hongyun carpet factory, sealing the premises and detaining workers. Tian Lisha, an employee of the factory and, according to the case reports, the sister of the factory’s late founder Tian Shihong, was taken away along with the factory’s legal representative Li Shuhong, the accountant Liu Mingming, and several other practitioners from their homes. The factory was closed off for days. By late August 2022, four of the nine detainees — Tian Lisha, Li Shuhong, Qu Aiping, and Zhang Yingming — had been formally arrested on the approval of the Wendeng District Procuratorate; the remaining five were released on bail and later also indicted. On December 28, 2022, the Rongcheng City Procuratorate indicted all nine at the Rongcheng City Court. Reports of the July 21 operation describe some two hundred officers surrounding the factory, controlling workers one by one, and seizing books, printers, engraving and cutting equipment, and data-storage media.
Trial and nine-year sentence
The Rongcheng City Court tried the nine practitioners on August 24, 2023. According to the case reports, Tian Lisha told the court she rejected the charges as fabricated, invoking constitutional guarantees of freedom of belief and speech; the reports state that the practitioners were interrupted and threatened when they attempted to describe their treatment. In December 2023, news reached the reporting networks that Tian Lisha had been sentenced to nine years in prison. The formal charge was not stated publicly in the reports reviewed. Her recorded term runs to July 19, 2031. Co-defendants received shorter sentences: Li Shuhong received two years and Liu Mingming received nine months, according to the same reports.
Earlier persecution
Tian Lisha was previously detained in 2011. During the first half of 2011, police from the Wendeng domestic-security division arrested her while she was at work at the Taiwei Electronic Factory, searched her home, and she was sent to a forced-labor camp. Her family hired lawyers and filed administrative-reconsideration applications with the Weihai City Government and the Weihai City Court challenging the labor-camp sentence, but the applications were rejected, according to the contemporary report. Tian Shihong, the Hongyun factory’s founder, had himself been subjected to prolonged detention, labor-camp confinement, and harassment for his practice before his death in November 2019 at the age of 64; his family’s factory subsequently became the target of the 2022 operation.
Current status
Tian Lisha is currently imprisoned, serving a nine-year sentence expected to run to July 19, 2031. She appeared in the August 31, 2026 monthly roster of mainland political prisoners maintained by the Chinese-language rights monitoring network 维权网, which lists her among those sentenced to nine years and reported in custody. The prison where she is serving her term has not been identified in the reports reviewed. No official court verdict or state-media coverage of her case has been located; the case record rests on the Prisoners of Conscience database entry maintained by a human-rights monitoring organization and the Falun Gong–affiliated case archive, with monitoring-organization corroboration of the 2022 case timeline.
A note on identity
This profile concerns Tian Lisha (田丽莎) of Weihai, Shandong — the practitioner seized in the July 2022 Hongyun factory operation and sentenced to nine years. She is a different person from Tian Lili (田丽丽) and Tian Liping (田丽平), whose cases are recorded with different localities, sentences, and proceedings; the names should not be conflated.
