This archive preserves the documented media and case record for Wang Hongmei (王洪梅), a Falun Gong practitioner from Yinan County, Linyi, Shandong, currently serving a five-year prison sentence at the Jinan Women’s Prison. It does not cover the two unrelated namesakes: the Tongnan County (Chongqing) farmer or the China West Normal University lecturer.
Case chronology (as documented by the case archive)
- 1999: Began practicing Falun Gong; traveled to Beijing to appeal after the July 20 ban; detained by Yinan County police. Later laid off from the fertilizer-factory job; lived on odd jobs while raising her son after her husband’s death.
- November 19, 2008: Large-scale police roundup at Suijiadian village, Yinan County; more than 30 practitioners seized.
- January 17, 2009: Wang Hongmei seized from her home in the same roundup; property confiscated. Subsequently held at a Linyi brainwashing center and sentenced to three years of forced labor; served at the Shandong First Women’s Labor Camp, where reports describe electroshock and sleep-deprivation torture.
- October 24, 2023: Seized on the street by plainclothes police; her home and a second residence searched by some twenty officers; books and materials seized. Fifteen days of administrative detention at the Yinan County Detention Center.
- November 9, 2023: On expiry of the administrative detention, transferred to the Linyi City Detention Center under criminal detention; family unable to obtain news.
- April 1, 2024 (around): Tried at the Yinan County Court.
- Early August 2024: Reporting networks learned she had been sentenced to five years; about half a month earlier she had been transferred to the Jinan Women’s Prison. Term recorded to October 23, 2028.
- August 31, 2026: Listed in custody in the 维权网 Issue 131 monthly roster, five-year sentence group.
