Wang Hongwu (王洪武) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Wulian County in Rizhao City, Shandong Province, who has been sentenced to prison twice in cases arising from his practice of Falun Gong. The two episodes, in 2019 and 2023, were handled by the same county court — a court that provincial authorities had specifically designated to hear Falun Gong cases from Wulian and neighboring Ju County.
The first documented case dates to May 14, 2019. On that day the Wulian court sentenced Wang Hongwu to three years in prison and fined him 10,000 yuan. Two co-defendants were sentenced alongside him: Zhao Qiuwu received two years and a 10,000-yuan fine, and Zhao Yuhua was placed under a year of supervised monitoring with a 5,000-yuan fine. A fourth person, Lin Lili, was fined 5,000 yuan. All four were identified as Falun Gong practitioners in Rizhao.
Roughly three years later, Wang was detained again. On October 10, 2022, police in Wulian County arrested five Falun Gong practitioners, Wang Hongwu among them. According to a Minghui.org account, the sequence began when Li Fengying and Zheng Yunmei were reported by a fruit vendor for talking to him about Falun Gong; police ransacked their homes and confiscated materials and equipment. Later the same day, officers arrested Wang Hongwu together with Wang Shihua and Yang Mingzhen. All five were interrogated and then transferred to the Rizhao City Detention Center.
The five cases went to a joint hearing before the Wulian County Court on April 28, 2023. Two lawyers entered not-guilty pleas and raised objections concerning the searches, confiscated items and interrogation. A second joint hearing followed on May 8. According to the same account, seven days later, on May 15, the court convicted all five: Li Fengying received eight years with a 20,000-yuan fine; Wang Hongwu four and a half years with an 8,000-yuan fine; Yang Mingzhen and Zheng Yunmei four years each; and Wang Shihua one and a half years.
Wang Hongwu is documented as one of the Wulian locals among the five defendants; Yang Mingzhen, by contrast, was described as a native of Weifang City who had been living in Wulian.
The 2019 and 2023 proceedings name Wang Hongwu, a Wulian County Falun Gong practitioner, before the same county court, and a March 2022 report already listed Wang Hongwu among practitioners the Wulian court had sentenced since 2018. The records therefore appear to describe one man prosecuted twice, three years apart, for the same practice.
As of the latest documented record — the May 15, 2023 sentencing to a four-and-a-half-year term — Wang Hongwu was in custody serving that sentence. No subsequent public information about his whereabouts or condition was found in the preparation record.
