Wang Pengying (王朋影) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Shulan City, Jilin Province, reported to have been sentenced to six and a half years in prison.
Described as being nearly 70 years old in August 2021, Wang had been detained repeatedly over the preceding two decades. After the crackdown on Falun Gong began in July 1999, she was held at the Shulan Nanshan Detention Center; she later rode a bicycle toward Beijing in an attempt to petition, was intercepted, and was sent to re-education through labor for one year in 2001. In November 2002 she was seized by officers of the Shulan Street Coal Mine police station and sent to the Changchun Heizuizi labor camp for a year. Her son, Fan Guang, died in April 2004. That same month Wang was seized again and sent to the Changchun Women’s Labor Camp for a year.
On October 12, 2016, Wang and five other practitioners were detained in Xin’an township while distributing materials. On May 19, 2017, the Shulan City Court tried her case and sentenced her to two years and six months, suspended for three years, with a 30,000-yuan fine, according to the reporting.
On September 28, 2020, Wang was seized by police while out running errands and held in the Jilin City Detention Center. She was subsequently reported to have been sentenced to six and a half years in prison, the charge and sentencing court unspecified, with the term recorded through March 27, 2027.
