Documented record

The source names Wu Wei with Deng Jun, Xiong Jianjun, and Fu Guanghui. It reports that the four formed a workers’ autonomous organization and agitated for strikes, activity associated in the report with a brief shutoff of Changde’s water supply.

All four were reported arrested after June 4, 1989. In November 1989, the Changde City Public Security Bureau imposed re-education-through-labor terms ranging from two to three years. The source does not distinguish Wu Wei’s individual term. RTL was administrative detention, not a court conviction or criminal prison sentence.

Research limits

The 1992 report said the four workers might then have been free but explicitly lacked confirmation. Wu Wei’s age, exact plant occupation, arrest date, individual RTL term, detention facility, release date, later life, and current status remain unresolved.
