谢热扎提·阿海 — Political Prisoner Profile

谢热扎提·阿海 (Xie Rezhati·Ahai)

Xie Rezhati·Ahai (谢热扎提·阿海) is a Kazakh man from Altay in northern Xinjiang, born in 1987, who worked as an ethnic-style interior decorator.

In 2015, police in Altay City detained him. He had been in frequent contact with relatives and friends living in Kazakhstan. Authorities accused him of spreading videos related to violence in Xinjiang online and charged him with leaking state secrets.

In May 2016, the Altay City Intermediate People’s Court heard his case and sentenced him to seven years in prison for leaking state secrets. He was reported to have served his sentence at Fuhai Prison in Altay City.

A prisoner-record profile published in 2018 reports that he was released in 2022 upon completing his sentence, and that there has been no public information about him since his release. (A 2026 prisoner roster still lists his name among people serving seven-year terms; that listing has not been reconciled with the 2022 release report.)

Name note: This profile concerns only the Altay Kazakh case described above. It is not the Uyghur former official 尔扎提·巴吾东, nor the female prisoner 沙阿呆提·巴吴顿 — both carry similar transliterated names but are different people with different cases.
