Xie Wanjun (谢万军) is a Chinese democracy activist associated with the 1989 protest movement and the 1998 China Democracy Party organizing campaign. Human Rights Watch records that Xie Wanjun and Liu Lianjun, two CDP members in Shandong, went to the Shandong provincial Civil Affairs Bureau on September 10, 1998 to seek registration of the China Democracy Party Shandong Province Preparatory Committee.
Contemporaneous reporting in The Washington Post likewise interviewed Xie during the Shandong registration effort. Later reporting and the controlled P1 research record place him outside China in 1999 and subsequently in the United States. Exact escape, transit, arrival and asylum dates remain source-bounded where primary immigration records have not been recovered.
Organizations and roles
Xie’s participation in the Shandong CDP registration effort is independently documented. Later organizational titles and precise tenure should be tied to organization-primary records rather than inferred from later descriptions.
Historical context
Human Rights Watch documents the broader 1998–1999 CDP campaign as an effort to organize openly and seek legal registration, followed by arrests, prosecutions and prison sentences against numerous participants.
