Who this record covers
杨奎 (Yang Kui) is a political prisoner recorded in the Rights Defense Network’s August 2026 monthly report on political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in mainland China (Issue 131, dated August 31, 2026). The report lists him in its sentenced-to-4-years-6-months group. His Chinese name was confirmed from the report’s own Chinese edition, which aligns name-for-name with the English edition’s “Yang Kui” listing.
Nothing further is publicly documented about him in the located record: no charge, no detention date, no sentencing date, no court, no facility, no province or city, no age, and no account of the events behind his case appear in the report or in any indexed reporting found during research.
Recorded status
The Issue 131 report places 杨奎 in the group sentenced to 4 years and 6 months, among 72 people in that category. The report presents its entries as political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in custody. Sentence start and end dates are not given; this page does not assert when his sentence began, how much time remains, or whether he is currently in custody.
Identification method
The roster’s English edition lists “Yang Kui” with no Chinese characters. The Chinese edition of the same report was read directly: its 判刑 4 年 6 个月,72 人 list reads “…席照军、杨奎、张文鹏、栾庆玲…”, while the English edition lists “…Xi Zhaojun, Yang Kui, Zhang Wenpeng, Luan Qingling…” — the same neighbor sequence in both languages, with 杨奎 occupying the “Yang Kui” position. The report’s own name index independently places 杨奎 in the Y block as “…杨俊成、杨奎、杨兰英…”, matching the English index’s “…Yang Juncheng, Yang Kui, Yang Lanying…”. This positional identification, from the report’s own two editions, is the sole basis for the Chinese characters — no independent biographical source confirms them. The adjacent-index names 杨俊成 (“Yang Juncheng”) and 杨兰英 (“Yang Lanying”) are separate roster entries, not this person.
What this record does not claim
This page does not state the charge, the court, the place of detention, or the circumstances of the case — none are documented. It does not treat a roster listing as a court record, and it does not guess at facts the sources do not give.
