This archive preserves the reporting record on Yang Xiaoguang, a Falun Gong practitioner from Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province, sentenced to 3.5 years in June 2023 after sixteen prior years of forced-labor and prison detention. Sources are listed chronologically with provenance notes.

2007 — Clearwisdom: torture at Mudanjiang Prison

Clearwisdom (English edition of Minghui reporting) documented Yang’s persecution at Mudanjiang Prison following his 14-year sentence: beatings by guard Song Junlin and inmates, more than twenty days in a small isolation cell in October 2004, broken bones, and a coordinated forced-“transformation” attempt in December 2004. The report places him in Mishan, the Jixi labor camp, and the April 25, 2002 re-arrest — consistent with later reports. Full report. (Verification: VERIFIED — opened and read 2026-10-09. Source type: Falun Gong-affiliated reporting; claims attributed.)

2016 — Minghui: sixteen years detained

Minghui’s retrospective detailed the full arc: the 1999 Beijing appeals, the November 1999 Tiananmen arrest, two years at Jixi labor camp (released October 2001 on medical bail), the April 25, 2002 arrest, the 14-year sentence by the Mishan City Court, and torture at Hada and Mudanjiang prisons — including the death-bed, hanging, force-feeding, and the loss of hearing in his right ear. Full report. (Verification: VERIFIED — opened and read 2026-10-09.)

2023 — Minghui: the 3.5-year sentence

Minghui reported the 2023 case end to end: the March 3, 2023 conversation with a student outside Yifu Elementary School and same-night arrest; the March 17 arrest approval; the June 19, 2023 trial (prosecutor Zhu Hong recommending 3.5 years + 10,000-yuan fine; presiding judge Ling Zuobin); and the June 26, 2023 written verdict of 3.5 years plus fine. The report notes two law firms refused the case once they learned it concerned Falun Gong. Full report. (Verification: VERIFIED — opened and read 2026-10-09.)

2026 — Rights Defense Network, Issue 131: in-custody listing

The August 31, 2026 monthly report on in-custody political prisoners and prisoners of conscience lists Yang Xiaoguang (杨晓光) in the “sentenced to 3 years 6 months” group of 126 people — confirming he was still reported in custody two months before this profile was prepared. (Source type: independent Chinese-language human-rights monitoring; roster entry — establishes listing and sentence band, not the underlying case facts.)

Source limitations and caveats

  • The detailed case reporting comes from Falun Gong-affiliated outlets (Minghui/Clearwisdom). Their factual claims are presented with attribution; no independent corroboration from non-affiliated media was found.
  • The 2023 report gives Yang’s age as 70; the 2007 and 2016 reports give ages (49 and 58) consistent with birth around 1958. The record does not resolve this discrepancy.
  • The exact facility where Yang is serving the 2023 sentence has not been independently confirmed.
  • Do not confuse with 王晓光 (Wang Xiaoguang), the Golden Lampstand Church pastor in Linfen, Shanxi — a different person (see person profile).
