This archive preserves the reporting record on Yang Xiaoming, a blind Falun Gong practitioner from Kunming, Yunnan, sentenced to seven years in March 2023 and reported taken into custody in March 2026. Sources are listed chronologically with provenance notes.

2023 — WOIPFG: investigation notice

The World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong issued a notice on March 8, 2023 documenting Yang’s case: female, 54, from Kunming; detained May 28, 2022 by Zongshuying police (detention center refused her; released on bail the next day); detained again November 16, 2022; indicted to the Xishan District Court in December 2022; tried February 1, 2023 with the result then unknown. The notice records two prior forced-labor terms totaling five years, torture including beatings that left her blind by the end of 2012, dismissal from her job, a forced abortion, and divorce. It names the officials and units involved. Full notice (PDF, Chinese). (Verification: VERIFIED — opened and read 2026-10-09. Source type: Falun Gong-affiliated advocacy organization; claims attributed.)

2026 — Bitter Winter: sentenced and “disappeared”

Bitter Winter’s April 2026 report, by Yang Feng, reconstructed Yang’s full story: born 1969, practicing since 1995, blinded by beatings by the end of 2012, detained May 2022, and — the key new fact — sentenced to seven years with a heavy fine on March 14, 2023, remaining at home on health grounds afterward. In late March 2026 she vanished from her home under circumstances friends describe as a coercive removal; they believe she was taken to complete her term, which would run to about 2033. Full report. (Verification: VERIFIED — opened and read 2026-10-09. Source type: established religious-freedom news outlet.)

2026 — Rights Defense Network, Issue 131: in-custody listing

The August 31, 2026 monthly report on in-custody political prisoners and prisoners of conscience lists Yang Xiaoming (杨小明) in the “sentenced to 7 years” group of 86 people — consistent with the account that she was taken into custody in March 2026 to serve the 2023 sentence. (Source type: independent Chinese-language human-rights monitoring; roster entry — establishes listing and sentence band.)

Source limitations and caveats

  • The detailed case facts come from Falun Gong-affiliated sources (WOIPFG) and a religious-freedom outlet (Bitter Winter). Their factual claims are presented with attribution; no independent corroboration from non-affiliated media was found.
  • The March 2026 removal is reported by friends via Bitter Winter; no official record of it has been located, and the exact facility is unconfirmed.
  • Do not confuse with 杨小民 (Yang Xiaomin), the Qinghai official executed in 1985 — a different person with different characters.
