Who she is
Yang Xiuhua (杨秀花) is a woman from Fularji District in Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province, born about 1965. She worked as a warehouser at the Beigang steel plant in Fularji District. She practices Falun Gong, the spiritual discipline that has been banned and suppressed in China since 1999. A monitoring report published August 31, 2026, lists her as in custody serving a four-year prison sentence.
First imprisonment (2015–2018)
According to the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Yang — then 50 — and fellow practitioner Yu Guimin were seized on May 1, 2015, at a supermarket in Fularji District while telling passersby about the persecution of Falun Gong. They were taken to the Hongan Police Station, beaten and interrogated, and their homes were searched; the next day they were transferred to the Qiqihar City Detention Center.
The Fularji District Court tried the two women on November 3, 2015, and on November 23 sentenced each to three years in prison. Ms. Yang was released on May 1, 2018, after serving the full term.
Second arrest and four-year sentence (2024)
According to reports by Minghui, a Falun Gong-affiliated news outlet, Ms. Yang was arrested again on April 26, 2024, when officers of the Hongan Police Station in Fularji District seized seven practitioners at once — breaking into the home of Feng Zimin and arresting his guests, then arresting Ms. Yang and two others as they arrived unaware of the raid. All seven homes were searched. While the others were released on bail, Ms. Yang was re-arrested and taken to the Qiqihar City Detention Center.
Her family learned in mid-September 2024 that her case had been assigned to the Longjiang County Procuratorate. The Longjiang County Court sentenced her to four years in prison on December 12, 2024. The details of her indictment are not publicly documented.
