Zhang Aiquan (张爱泉)

Zhang Aiquan (张爱泉) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Dongying City, Shandong Province. A former level-3 police supervisor (三级警督) at the Shengli Oil Field Binhai Public Security Bureau’s traffic-management center, he began practicing Falun Gong in 1995.

Zhang’s family was deeply affected by the post-1999 crackdown on Falun Gong. His wife, Wang Minyun (王明云), also a practitioner, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison and, according to accounts published by Minghui.org — a Falun Gong-affiliated news outlet — was subjected to forced drugging in Shandong Women’s Prison. She was released on November 19, 2012, and died on February 11, 2013, at age 52. Zhang’s father and father-in-law also died in the years that followed, which family accounts attributed to the strain of the persecution.

Zhang himself has been detained repeatedly since 1999. On September 30, 2000, he was sent to three years of re-education through labor at Wangcun in Shandong. On May 13, 2005, he and his wife were among a group of practitioners arrested in a sweep across Dongying, Zibo, and Hengtai County. On July 28, 2006, the Hengtai County Court sentenced Zhang to eight years in prison and Wang to seven and a half years; lawyers for the group entered not-guilty pleas. Minghui.org reported that Zhang was subjected to beatings and other abuse during his eight years in Shandong Provincial Prison.

On November 29, 2023, officers of the Dongying City Public Security Bureau and the Shengli Oil Field Binhai Public Security Bureau arrested Zhang at his home, one of several practitioners detained that day. He was held in the Binhai detention center. In July 2024, the Dongying District Court in Dongying City sentenced him to three years and six months in prison; the specific charge was not stated in the available records. His term runs to May 28, 2027. In November 2024 he was transferred to the 11th ward of Shandong Provincial Prison. Minghui.org reported that Zhang appealed the sentence; no appeal outcome is on record.

As of August 31, 2026, Zhang was listed among mainland China’s fixed-term political prisoners, serving a 3.5-year sentence.
