Person profile: Zhang Chunqiu — Political Prisoner Profile
This archive preserves the key source records documenting the case of Zhang Chunqiu (张春秋), a Falun Gong practitioner from Yiyang, Hunan, repeatedly imprisoned since 2001 and missing since December 2023.
Primary case records
- CHRD Prisoners of Conscience database — Zhang Chunqiu record (entry dated September 8, 2022). A structured prisoner record maintained by the Hong Kong–based rights monitor Chinese Human Rights Defenders, recording his birth year (1963), gender, hometown (Yiyang, Hunan), Falun Gong affiliation, and a chronological detention history: the 2001 eight-year sentence, the 2010–2011 labor-re-education term, the December 2019 arrest, the June 2020 three-year-seven-month sentence served at Wangling Prison, and his seizure from home in late December 2023 with subsequent whereabouts unknown. Recorded at tenchu.org.
- Minghui Victim Library — “张春秋 简介” (victim file i21870, updated February 16, 2024). A detailed Chinese-language dossier on Zhang Chunqiu at library.minghui.org, documenting each detention episode from 2001 to 2023, including the April 2001 arrest alongside Gao Desi, the closed trial and eight-year sentence, torture accounts from his first imprisonment, the 2010 labor-re-education term at Xinkaipu, the 2012 and 2014 detentions, the December 2019 Loudi arrest, the June 2020 trial before the Loudi Louxing District Court, imprisonment in Wangling Prison’s 10th ward, release in July 2023, and disappearance in December 2023. The dossier links approximately two dozen related Minghui reports.
Rights-monitoring roster
- Rights Defense Network / 维权网 — “中国大陆在押政治犯、良心犯月度报告(2026年8月31日)第131期” (chinahrc.org). The August 31, 2026 monthly report lists Zhang Chunqiu among 259 detainees held without a verdict, in the Hunan group — indicating that the monitoring organization still counted him as in custody as of that date, though no location or legal-status details were published after his December 2023 disappearance.
Source note. Torture and mistreatment accounts in these records come from advocacy and monitoring sources and are attributed as such; they have not been independently verified. No official PRC court documents for the case were located.
