This media archive accompanies the profile of Zhang Hanjiang (张汉江), a Hubei China Democracy Party (CDP) organizer whose 1998–1999 party-building activity and 1999 police detention are documented in contemporaneous reporting and later legal-text reproduction. The profile: Zhang Hanjiang / 张汉江
Reporting chronology
- 1998 — Hubei organizing context. The Hubei CDP preparatory effort sought registration during the nationwide 1998 party-building wave that Human Rights Watch documents in Nipped in the Bud: The Suppression of the China Democracy Party (September 1, 2000). That report does not name Zhang Hanjiang; it is context here, not a direct source on him.
- 6 February 1999 — United Headquarters notice. A reproduction of the China Democracy Party United Headquarters notice (联总文1号), dated 6 February 1999, lists Zhang Hanjiang on both the headquarters committee and the executive committee. The original notice has not been recovered, so the listing is source-attributed rather than independently verified primary-record fact.
- 24 February 1999 — police summons. Contemporaneous Radio Free Asia reporting identifies Zhang as a Wuhan CDP activist summoned by police during suppression of a planned human-rights seminar. AFP-derived reporting states that he was released after approximately one day. The original RFA report and the AFP item were not located in this pass; both are archival targets.
- 2001 — judgment reproduction names him. A reproduced 2001 Wuhan court judgment in the Lü Xinhua case identifies Zhang as first vice-chair of the former Hubei China Democracy Party branch. The reproduction’s provenance is unverified and the authenticated judgment has not been located.
- After 2001 — no later record. No verified prison sentence, detention, release record, or post-2001 activity has been located. No inference about Zhang’s later or present circumstances is made.
Source provenance and limitations
The strongest layer is contemporaneous third-party reporting (Radio Free Asia, AFP-derived) on the February 1999 summons and release. The leadership layers (first vice-chair of the Hubei branch; United Headquarters committee and executive-committee listings) rest on reproductions of a 2001 court judgment and a February 1999 organization notice whose originals have not been recovered. Original Hubei branch appointment and charter records, the original 6 February 1999 notice and meeting record, the February 24 police record, and authenticated exhibits from the 2001 Lü Xinhua case remain acquisition targets. No working URLs for the 1999 RFA or AFP items were located in this pass; the live profile and the research-archive page record these as source layers with the same caveats.
