Case chronology in the sources
- May 2021 — detention and release. Minghui reported that Zhang was detained while distributing Falun Gong informational materials by officers of the Huanghai Road police station. Taken to a detention center the same night, she was denied admission after the medical check found abnormal heart rhythm and a systolic blood pressure reading of 220 mm Hg, and was released.
- 2021–2023 — repeated harassment. Minghui and the prisoners-of-conscience database record report repeated harassment by the Huanghai Road police station, the Wulian County procuratorate, and the Wulian County Court, with repeated failures of the required medical examinations.
- November 2023 — sentencing. The Wulian County Court sentenced Zhang to eight years’ imprisonment; she was taken to prison. Minghui states her family was not told which prison; the facility remains unconfirmed.
- February 2024 — case report. Minghui published its case report (Chinese edition February 3, English edition February 5), the first dated public account of the case.
- March 14, 2024 — database entry. The prisoners-of-conscience database recorded the individual entry for 张善娟, citing the Minghui report, with the 8-year sentence and a term ending 2031.11.
- August 31, 2026 — in-custody listing. The Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 monthly report of mainland in-custody political prisoners and prisoners of conscience lists 张善娟 / “Zhang Shanjuan” in the “sentenced to 8 years” group. This is the most recent dated evidence of her continued imprisonment.
