What is documented about her case
The following is reported by the sources cited in the media archive below. Claims are attributed to their sources; no independent court document was available.
- Background. Minghui.org reports that Zhang Xunju began practicing Falun Gong in early 1999 and that after the nationwide suppression campaign began in July 1999 she was repeatedly harassed by township and police authorities; the same report states that in 2000 she was detained by Longhu township and police personnel — one month of administrative detention followed by one month in a re-education facility — and that in 2001 police attempted to take her from her home after she was reported for distributing informational materials.
- Arrest. On May 12, 2021, at about 6 a.m., police broke into her home and arrested her in a coordinated operation involving the Xindu District domestic-security unit and four police stations; about nine to ten people were detained in the same operation. Her husband, Huang Huaizhou, was among those arrested with her.
- Trial and sentencing. On June 28, 2022, the Xindu District Court of Chengdu tried and sentenced six people detained in the operation. Families were notified the day of the hearing. The CHRD Prisoners of Conscience database and Minghui’s victim-library record state a 10-year sentence for Zhang Xunju, ending May 11, 2031; the charge is recorded as unknown. Her husband received a 3-year sentence; other co-defendants received 7 and 5 years. (Note: a Minghui report dated August 14, 2022 initially stated four years for Zhang Xunju; subsequent records state ten years — see the archive note below.)
