See the Person Profile.

This archive collects the media record of the case of Zhang Yuping (张玉萍), a Falun Gong practitioner from Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. Arrested on June 12, 2021, for using banknotes printed with information about Falun Gong, she was held at the Gujiao No.4 Detention Center and sentenced by the Yingze District Court on January 28, 2022, to eight and a half years in prison with a 30,000-yuan fine; she appealed the verdict. The Rights Defense Network lists her as a current in-custody political prisoner (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) in its eight-and-a-half-year sentence group. Her case is documented by two Minghui.org reports (March and April 2022) and by the Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 roster in both Chinese and English editions.

Source provenance

Minghui.org is a Falun Gong community publication that reports detentions and prosecutions of practitioners. It is a partisan source: its articles present detentions as persecution and reflect the Falun Gong community’s perspective. The case facts below should be read as reported by that publication, not as independently verified findings.

The Rights Defense Network (维权网) monthly report is a systematic roster published monthly; Issue 131 (August 31, 2026) lists 1,638 reported current-custody political prisoners and prisoners of conscience grouped by sentence length. It corroborates the eight-and-a-half-year sentence independently of Minghui.

Chronological media record

June 12, 2021 — arrest. Minghui reports that Ms. Zhang Yuping, around 60, of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, was arrested for using banknotes printed with information about Falun Gong. She was held at the Gujiao No.4 Detention Center.

January 28, 2022 — sentencing. The Yingze District Court sentenced Ms. Zhang to eight and a half years in prison with a 30,000-yuan fine. She pleaded not guilty and appealed.

March–April 2022 — reported. Minghui’s dedicated case report (March 26, 2022) recounts her earlier persecution history (1999 Beijing appeals, 2001 two-year forced labor term, 2004 three-year prison sentence, 2008 harassment). Its April 6, 2022 monthly sentencing roundup lists her among the Shanxi practitioners sentenced that period, confirming the sentence and appeal.

August 31, 2026 — roster classification. The Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 monthly report lists 张玉萍 in its 判刑8年6个月,9人 (sentenced to 8 years 6 months, 9 people) group; the English edition confirms “Zhang Yuping” in the parallel band.
