Zhao Huanzhen (赵焕珍)
Zhao Huanzhen (赵焕珍), a Falun Gong practitioner from the Shanhaiguan District of Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, was sentenced to four years and six months in prison in late 2023. He was born in August 1956 and had practiced Falun Gong since April 1996.
On the morning of May 10, 2023, Zhao was detained together with several elderly practitioners while reading Falun Gong books at the home of fellow practitioner Zhu Fengchun, then 79. According to a rights-movement case report, some forty to fifty officers from the Qinhuangdao Public Security Bureau, its Shanhaiguan branch, and the Shanhaiguan police station took part in the detention. Zhao was held in the Qinhuangdao Detention Center. About six months later, he developed a severe bloody-stool condition and became physically weak.
On December 14, 2023, Zhao was tried at the Funing District Court in Qinhuangdao. A few days later his family was informed by court personnel that he had been sentenced to four years and six months in prison. Zhao did not accept the verdict and filed an appeal. His sentence is due to end on November 9, 2027.
No official court document or named statutory charge has been publicly documented for his case; the charge and the post-sentencing place of detention are recorded as unknown in the prisoner-of-conscience database. As of the most recent evidence (January 2024 reporting; sentence through November 2027), Zhao Huanzhen is believed to remain imprisoned. His name appears in the 维权网 (Rights Defense Network) monthly prisoner report, Issue 131 (August 31, 2026), in the group sentenced to four years and six months.
