Zhao Jie (赵婕) — Political Prisoner Profile

Zhao Jie (赵婕)

Zhao Jie (赵婕), born 1971, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Deyang in Sichuan Province. She is serving an eight-year prison sentence imposed in February 2023.

According to a case account carried by the Falun Gong-affiliated outlet Minghui and a matching individual record in the CHRD Prisoners of Conscience database, Zhao was detained on the evening of March 25, 2020, while distributing Falun Gong materials with fellow practitioner Yang Zhipeng. Both were placed under criminal detention on March 27, 2020.

On February 17, 2023, the Jingyang District Court in Deyang tried Zhao’s case and sentenced her to eight years in prison with a fine of 100,000 yuan, Minghui reported. The CHRD database records the same eight-year term, ending March 26, 2028, and lists the charge and her current place of detention as unknown.

Zhao’s family has publicly called for her release. Minghui reported that her father, who fell and is now bedridden at home, and her mother are awaiting her return.

No court judgment or official announcement of the case has been located; the trial date, sentence, and fine come from Minghui’s reporting, corroborated on the sentence term and dates by the CHRD record. The charge on which she was convicted has not been established in the sources found.
