Zhao Jun (赵军)
Mr. Zhao Jun (赵军), a Falun Gong practitioner in his seventies from Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, is serving a four-year prison sentence imposed in April 2024 for his faith, according to case reports published by Minghui.org. The Rights Defense Network’s (维权网) monthly political-prisoners report (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) lists him in its four-year-sentence band, confirming he remains in custody serving his term as of that date.
Background
This was not Mr. Zhao’s first imprisonment for his faith. In February 2001 he was arrested at his home in Mudanjiang and, according to the same Minghui reports, subjected to torture that permanently damaged the nerves around his right armpit and disabled his right arm. He was subsequently sentenced to seven years in prison.
The 2021–2024 case
On February 14, 2021, Mr. Zhao was detained at a public square in Mudanjiang after speaking with passersby about Falun Gong, according to Minghui.org. Officers from the Xin’an police station searched his home and confiscated more than thirty Falun Gong books. The detention center declined to admit him — first citing the COVID-19 outbreak, later his persistent high blood pressure — so he spent the next three years cycling between bail, house arrest, and repeated failed detention attempts while the case moved forward.
The Aimin District Court tried him on April 12, 2024 and sentenced him to four years in prison with a 10,000-yuan fine on April 26. The Mudanjiang City Intermediate Court upheld the verdict on June 27, 2024. Taken back into custody on July 9, he was held in a police hospital, transferred to the Mudanjiang Prison training team on August 8, 2024, and later moved to Tailai Prison in Qiqihar, where he was reported to be serving his term.
Status and evidentiary limits
As of August 31, 2026, the Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 report lists Mr. Zhao in its four-year-sentence band with an in-custody classification. No release date has been stated in any public source; none is given here.
