Zheng Rongzhen (郑荣珍) — Media Profile & Archive
Person profile: Zheng Rongzhen / 郑荣珍
This archive preserves the source record behind the Zheng Rongzhen (郑荣珍) profile: a Falun Gong practitioner from Xianning, Hubei, with a case history running from 2001 through a disputed 2023 sentencing, with provenance and limitations noted. Sources are graded; allegations remain attributed rather than stated as fact. A material contradiction between the sources on the 2023 sentence is documented below, not smoothed over.
Case chronology
- July 2001 — Detained for ten days at the Shuangheqiao detention center after delivering food to an elderly practitioner; re-detained the next day and fined 300 yuan after helping carry a letter from the detention center (Minghui report).
- May 2017 — Police and community workers enter her home, photograph the premises, and seize Falun Gong books (Minghui report).
- October 2021 — Arrested while distributing Falun Gong materials after placing them on the car of the Xianning public-security bureau chief; held in a detention center; her husband secures her release on bail; the prosecution proceeds (CHRD case record; Minghui report).
- January 2023 (Minghui version) — Sentenced by the Xian’an District Court to six months with suspended execution; taken into custody in March 2023 and sent to the Wuhan Women’s Prison (Minghui report).
- Fall 2023 (CHRD version) — Sentenced by the Xian’an District Court to three years in prison, charge unknown; immediately taken to the Wuhan Women’s Prison to serve a term through September 2026 (CHRD case record).
- August 31, 2026 — Listed in the Rights Defense Network’s monthly in-custody report among the 110 people in the “Sentenced to 3 years” group; name rendered 郑荣珍 in the Chinese edition (Issue 131).
Media and documentary record
- Chinese Human Rights Defenders — Prisoners of Conscience database, individual record for 郑荣珍 / “Zheng Rongzhen” (record entered 2024-08-22; retrieved 2026-10-10 via the database’s own query endpoint, exactly one record in the 4,372-record database): female, last taken 2023, charge unknown, sentence 3 years, release 2026.9, Wuhan Women’s Prison / “Hubei Provincial Women’s Prison”; narrative (Xianning, retired accountant, Falun Gong practitioner; October 2021 arrest, bail; fall-2023 three-year sentence by the Xian’an District Court; immediate imprisonment; term through September 2026). Database search page (established human-rights monitoring organization).
- Minghui (明慧网) — “湖北咸宁市法轮功学员郑荣珍被枉判入狱” (July 12, 2024; opened and read in full 2026-10-10): woman in her 70s from Wenquan, Xianning, retired accountant, Falun Gong practitioner; the 2001 and 2017 episodes; the October 2021 arrest at the bureau chief’s car and bail; then: January 2023 six-month sentence with suspended execution by the Xian’an District Court, taken into custody in March 2023 at the Wuhan Women’s Prison — contradicting the CHRD record on sentence length and dates. Full report (established independent Chinese-language media; Falun Gong-affiliated — language is advocacy, facts graded).
- Minghui English (July 15 and November 17, 2024 reports, read via search excerpts, not independently opened): six-month sentence by the Xian’an District Court in the fall of 2023; admitted to the Hubei Provincial Women’s Prison in March 2024; term completed September 2024 — a third timeline, also inconsistent with the roster. Recorded as a cited-but-not-independently-opened source; weak-match as an identity source for the roster entry.
- Rights Defense Network (维权网) — Issue 131 monthly in-custody report (August 31, 2026): 郑荣珍 / “Zheng Rongzhen” in the 判刑3年,110人 / “Sentenced to 3 years, 110 people” group (ZH: “…史庭福、强小侠、郑荣珍、刘桂兰、赵立军、李孝梅…”; EN: “…Shi Tingfu, Qiang Xiaoxia, Zheng Rongzhen, Liu Guilan, Zhao Lijun, Li Xiaomei…”), position 13 of 110, neighbor-locked both sides (independent monitoring organization).
Evidence notes and limitations
The core identification is solid: every source describes the same person — a woman from Wenquan, Xianning, Hubei, a retired accountant and Falun Gong practitioner, arrested in October 2021 after placing materials on the public-security bureau chief’s car, released on bail, prosecuted through the Xian’an District Court, and held at the Wuhan Women’s Prison. The single material contradiction is the 2023 sentence: CHRD records three years (term through September 2026); Minghui records six months. The Rights Defense Network’s independent August 2026 in-custody listing — three-year group, in custody as of August 31, 2026 — is consistent with the CHRD account and with no six-month account, which is why the CHRD record is treated as the case record for the roster entry. The discrepancy itself is unresolved and must not be smoothed over in downstream editing. The offense of conviction is not on record and must not be inferred. No court judgment, police notice, or state-media coverage was located. Nothing establishes release, sentence reduction, or transfer — those must not be inferred.
Do-not-merge note: 郑荣生, 郑淑珍, 郑荣儿, and 郑荣丰 are different people; 郑树力 / Zheng Shuli is also a different person.
