Zhu Zhengwu (朱正武) — Person Profile
Zhu Zhengwu (朱正武) is an elder of the Lingshan Church, a Protestant church in Chuxiong, Yunnan Province, where he and Pastor Pu Jinshun had ministered for 23 years. On July 30, 2025, Chuxiong public security took Pastor Pu, Elder Zhu, and several co-workers into custody at the Chuxiong Detention Center; the authorities supplied no complete indictment and the specific charges were never made public. The Rights Defense Network’s (维权网) monthly political-prisoners report (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) lists him among the 259 people in its detained-without-trial section (Yunnan regional group), classified as in custody as of that date.
The case
On July 30, 2025, Pastor Pu Jinshun, Elder Zhu Zhengwu, and several co-workers of the Lingshan Church in Chuxiong, Yunnan, were taken by Chuxiong public security and placed in the Chuxiong Detention Center. According to ChinaAid, the authorities had not provided a complete indictment to the relevant departments or to defense lawyers, and the specific charges involved had not been made public; the Voice of the Martyrs likewise reported that the specific charges had not been made public. According to ChinaAid, Pu and Zhu had returned to Suzhou in June for a family visit and were taken from their residences; Christian human-rights lawyers became involved in the case.
Earlier targeting
The church had come under escalating pressure before the arrests: in recent years it has been unable to use its purchased office building as a meeting place, and in May 2025 police raided one of the church’s small groups and interrogated several members, with arrests of church members beginning in the months that followed (ChinaAid).
Status and evidentiary limits
The Rights Defense Network’s monthly in-custody report for August 2026 places Zhu Zhengwu in its Yunnan regional group among 259 people reported as detained without trial. No details of any trial, sentence, or formal charge have been located, and none is inferred. The July 2025 arrest facts come from Christian human-rights reporting (ChinaAid and the Voice of the Martyrs) and are recorded as those sources report them; no PRC court judgment, police notice, or state-media coverage of the case was located. Nothing in the record establishes his age, the charge, the indictment status, a trial date, or the current facility. A “Pastor Zhu” appearing in Bitter Winter’s Hubei/Dalian Seventh-day Adventist coverage (sentenced 2011 in Dalian, released 2017) is a different person — different church, region, and case timeline — and must not be conflated with Zhu Zhengwu.
