Zhu Zonglan (朱宗兰) — Person Profile
Zhu Zonglan (朱宗兰) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Chongqing, reported to be in her 40s. On April 22, 2021, she was arrested with three others while reading Falun Gong teachings together; she stood trial at the Jiulongpo District Court on October 24, 2022; and in early April 2023 she was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment. The Rights Defense Network’s (维权网) monthly political-prisoners report (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) lists her in its 4-year-sentence band, confirming she remains in custody serving her term as of that date.
The case
On April 22, 2021, Zhu Zonglan, Yang Chunrong, Zhu Meiying, and Ye Wenxiu were arrested while reading Falun Gong teachings together, according to Minghui.org. Police searched their homes and confiscated Falun Gong-related items and cash. The four were held in the Banan District Detention Center; Ye Wenxiu was released and later arrested again and given an unknown sentence at the Chongqing Women’s Prison. Minghui reported that a July 2022 notice scheduled Zhu and Yang to stand trial at the Jiulongpo District Court on August 1, 2022; the trial ultimately took place on October 24, 2022, where the prosecution’s evidence included what the report describes as fabricated police evidence. In early April 2023, Yang Chunrong was sentenced to six years and nine months and Zhu Zonglan was sentenced to four years, Minghui reported. A Minghui sentencing-data record lists her as entry #77: 朱宗兰, Zhu Zonglan, in her 40s, Chongqing, April 2023, 4 years.
Status and evidentiary limits
The Rights Defense Network’s monthly in-custody report for August 2026 places Zhu Zonglan in its “sentenced to 4 years, 171 people” group; she was also included in the report’s A–Z prisoner index. No information about her current facility has been located, and none is inferred. A 4-year term from April 2023 does not by itself establish a release date without source confirmation. The arrest, trial, and sentencing facts come from practitioner-affiliated reporting (Minghui.org) and its sentencing-data compilation; dates, court actions, and the description of the prosecution evidence are recorded as those sources report them and have not been independently verified. No PRC court judgment or state-media coverage of the case was located. There is a trial-date variance in the record: a July 2022 notice scheduled the trial for August 1, 2022, while the later report records the trial on October 24, 2022, consistent with a postponement. The exact sentencing date in April 2023 was reported only as “recently” / “in early April”; any fine amount is unreported; Zhu Meiying’s prosecution status is unknown. Do-not-merge: exact-name searches returned only unrelated historical figures (the Qing official 朱蘭, the Hongwu-era 朱庆澜, and others) — all wrong-person contexts; “Pastor Zhu” in the Bitter Winter/Dalian case is a different person and must not be merged.
