Zou Wei (邹巍) — Media Profile & Archive
This archive preserves the source record behind the Zou Wei (邹巍) profile: the July 2024 Liu Xiaobo sea-memorial case that led to a three-and-a-half-year sentence for the Hangzhou democracy activist in February 2026, as documented by the Network of Chinese Human Rights Defenders, 维权网 reporting, the Rights Defense Network’s August 2026 roster, and the live FreeChina.live pages of his co-defendant, with provenance and limitations noted. Sources are graded; allegations remain attributed rather than stated as fact.
Network of Chinese Human Rights Defenders — “Alert: Chinese court imprisons two defenders for commemorating Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo” (February 17, 2026)
(Opened and read in full: https://www.nchrd.org). Recognized human-rights NGO: the most complete independent account — the July 13, 2024 memorial, the detentions, the August 2024 arrest, the September 2025 trial opening, and the February 13, 2026 sentencing (Zou 3.5 years, Zan Aizong 3 years). It records Zou’s not-guilty plea, counsel of his own choosing, and Zhejiang Democracy Party membership, and cites 维权网 reporting for key links. Source grade: recognized human-rights NGO — full case account, plea, counsel, and party affiliation.
维权网 — “获刑3年的浙江独立作家昝爱宗狱中情况通报” (August 3, 2026)
(Opened and read in full: https://wqw2010.blogspot.com/2026/08/3.html). Established independent Chinese-language monitoring source: detailed narrative of the memorial, detentions, arrest, trial, sentences, the detention facility address, and the May 14, 2026 prison transfer; it gives the sentence term to July 19, 2027. Source grade: established independent Chinese-language monitoring source — detention facility, transfer, and sentence term.
FreeChina.live — Zan Aizong Person and Media pages (live site, checked October 8, 2026)
(Live pages 12914 and 12915; content fetched and read). Live-site cross-reference: “Zou Wei” appears once as the co-defendant of writer 昝爱宗 in the published Zan Aizong Person and Media pages. This is a cross-reference, not a Zou Wei page. Source grade: live-site cross-reference.
维权网 — August 2026 monthly report, Issue 131 (August 31, 2026)
维权网《中国大陆在押政治犯、良心犯月度报告(2026年8月31日)第131期(共1638人), mirrored in English and Chinese. Lists 邹巍 / “Zou Wei” in the “3 years and 6 months” band. Source for in-custody classification as of August 2026. Source grade: monitoring organization; single-source roster fact.
Source conflicts and limitations
Mild hearing-characterization difference: 维权网 describes the February 13, 2026 proceeding as the trial hearing (开庭审理) at which sentences were handed down; the Network of Chinese Human Rights Defenders describes a trial opening on September 19, 2025 with the verdict pronounced at the February 13, 2026 hearing. Both agree on all dates and both sentences; public copy follows the Network’s two-hearing account while attributing the sentence facts to both sources. A ZH web search (“邹巍” + 昝爱宗, one round) returned no additional attributable outlets beyond 维权网 and the Network of Chinese Human Rights Defenders — recorded, not treated as absence of coverage. Zou’s age, occupation, and family details beyond his mother’s court attendance are not established. Precise current cell, block, or health status in prison is not reported. Identity note: 邹巍 is not 邹伟 (different characters), not 邹家成 or 邹华香 (band neighbors, separate roster entries), and not his co-defendant 昝爱宗.
