Reporting from Radio Free Asia and ChinaAid described restrictions affecting Christian and Catholic funeral rites at Shanghai funeral facilities. Direct confirmation supports the situation at Baoxing Funeral Home, while reporting concerning Longhua and any broader citywide scope remains more limited. No public municipal directive establishing a verified citywide ban has been located.

THE PROBLEM

Rules affecting funeral rites touch religious freedom, family dignity and public administration. When restrictions are imposed without a clear written legal basis, families cannot reliably know what is permitted, how a decision can be challenged, or whether enforcement is consistent.

Free China Movement calls for any funeral-facility rule affecting religious practice to be published, narrowly tailored, consistently applied and subject to review.
