Rapid Response: Xiang Jinfeng’s Release Must Be Followed by Freedom from Post-Prison Restrictions

Rights-monitoring sources reported that human-rights defender Xiang Jinfeng was released on August 28, 2026 after serving a four-year sentence in Fujian. Details about post-release conditions remain subject to continuing verification.

THE PROBLEM

Completion of a prison sentence does not necessarily end coercive restrictions. Former prisoners can face surveillance, renewed questioning, travel restrictions, pressure on family members and obstacles to rebuilding ordinary life.

FCM COMMENT / FOLLOW-UP

Free China Movement welcomes verified releases, but release should mean genuine freedom. FCM will monitor Xiang Jinfeng’s ability to live without renewed detention, surveillance or arbitrary passport and exit restrictions, and will update the record when reliable evidence changes.
