Evidence status: Documented profile based on contemporary human-rights reporting. Current status is unknown.

Jiang Fengshan was a teacher in the philosophy department of Xiangtan University in Hunan. Human Rights Watch/Asia Watch reported that he was 37 at the time of the 1989 crackdown.

According to Human Rights Watch, Jiang gave public speeches during the 1989 Democracy Movement and supported the students. After June 4, authorities accused him of encouraging workers to strike and block traffic. These descriptions include official characterizations reported by HRW and should not be treated as court findings.

Jiang was reportedly arrested in July 1989 and held in the Xiangtan City Jail. In early 1990, the Xiangtan City Public Security Bureau imposed three years of reeducation through labor. This was administrative detention, not a criminal-court sentence.

Current status

No reliable release or post-detention record has been established in the sources reviewed. The nominal three-year term must not be converted into a release fact. Current status: unknown.
